To chew the fat. Chew作为一个动词,它的意思是:吃东西时嚼东西的"嚼"。
可是,to chew the fat并不是嚼肥肉。这是一个俗语,它的意思是"几个朋友、同事或一些熟人坐在一起随便聊天,不管是天南地北,或是张家长李家短,想讲什么就讲什么。"

下面是一个例子。

通过这个句子记住一个动词和一个名词。
第一,动词tip,倾斜,翻倒(to topple over, overturn;
slant)(以前的句子里学过tip的3个名词含义"顶端""建议"和"小费"),既可以作及物动词,也可以作不及物动词使用。
第二,经常用作复数的名词belongings,所有物。
  例句:
  I hope you've let none of your belongings in the hotel.
  我希望你什么东西也没忘在旅馆里。
  Who bumped the table and tipped the vase?
  谁撞了桌子打翻了花瓶?
